CoD Modern Warfare 2 is estimated to have sold 7 million copies at release. 7 freaking million......
It's estimated to hit 11 million....
And get this, people say the multiplayer is actually fun, if you don't mind the lag...... (SIC)
Discuss....

Yea..... It will be like Star Wars Battle Front. It initially sold millions, then after 1 year nobody was playing it online.....

The fact you can't pick the server to play on tells me this game ain't long for the PC world. It was obviously designed for the console market.

Yea.... I was talking to a guy at work about this.... They probably designed it for all systems using some sort of code system and felt it was cheaper to leave the PC version than to redesign it. I hate to say it, but for FPS, I expect to see more of this.
John Carmack of Id has already said they are going to use the same type of p2p no server hosting system with their next game, Rage......
Duck, you realize this is Activision and not EA, right?

Yah all the dame masters in the end = $ BF Heroes already does that too - looks at your level and mates you up with like leveled players.
Some times you have to connect and reconnect to get online. And then you may show up in an idle room with not enough to play or worse yet 9 vs 3 as a server start is 3 vs 3 the auto fill apparently does not look for parity it just understands it has the minimum start of 3 vs 3.

Well, at least DICE has said that their next games will have dedicated servers. They may completely suck for other reasons, but you will at least get to choose your server

So FnF comes along and we cannot even play together?? F- THAT! Not having your own server is bad enough but if I cannot get a game together with my friends and all choose to be on the same server, then WTF good is it????? At least on the PC, where we have more of a brain than console players have, it just won't succeed period. Clans won't put up with that and that is a HUGE part of the PC market. PC gamers invented the FPS game and I cannot see consoles taking them over 100%. I just do not feel that FPS games are as good on a console than a PC, period. Now with that said the sad truth is that consoles are cheaper and easier to setup and use and are all running on the same hardware. Like MACS, they suck for games but are probably much easier to program for. The dumb masses will rule, as always... J/K I honestly don't care, there will always be a huge PC gamers market and some game companies that won't subscribe to this structure and will make money.

http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news/2009/1...arfare-2-pc.arsGood review of single and multiplayer..... The reviewer bought the game.... The store he picked it up at said they sold 400 preorders on Xbox and 4 on PC.... Activision doesn't care about PC and that's a good reason why..... Paladin, it actually works with your steam friends list. You can join them through there. I thought that was an interesting move....

QUOTE The Bad
* Single-player is over quickly * The actual story is a little bit on the paranoid, gun-porn side of things * Console-style online play on the PC * $60 for a PC release? No thanks, guys * Both the company and retailers barely seems to care about the PC version
The Ugly
* Huge design problems with the multiplayer version * The game is already in the expected places. PC gamers will feel spurned and pirate, and Activision will claim they don't support the PC better because of piracy Apparently you can set up "private games" with on line friends, but the game selects who hosts after all connected and LAG appears to be the major buzz kill. I kind of wanted to like this game, but man what a let down.

Saw some information this morning. The full article has more details. QUOTE ("gameindustry.biz") With first week UK sales reaching 1.78 million units, it's no surprise to find that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has entered the UK sales chart at number one this week.
GfK Chart-Track has confirmed that the game has recorded by far the biggest launch of any game ever in the UK, generating GBP 67.4 million in revenues. The results dwarf the second highest selling title: Grand Theft Auto IV with 927,000 units and GBP 39.9 million in revenues.
....
Only the controversial PC version of the game could be considered a disappointment, entering at only number five in the individual formats chart. The PC version accounted for just three per cent of overall sales, compared to 57 per cent for the 360 and 40 per cent for the PlayStation 3. http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/easy...-2-in-uk-charts

Well that news could be viewed two very different ways by the game companies.
1.) PC is only 3% of the market and isn't worth creating for.
2.) The PC market will not accept a console game, and there is a market for well designed flexible games for the PC that isn't being met by this product.

Okay I admit it. I am a bit scared here. What percent of the gaming market is PC these days? Will PC games really take a back burner to consoles? A lot of cool titles agree not available for the PC as it is. Halo II or II or whichever one it was. Halo was actually fun, I think it was the first one I played on the PC. It is starting to look like we will be lucky to get lame ass ports if this trend keep sup. The sad part is the console versions are not as good!!! less players, lame servers, no personal servers.. etc... etc... Hell if it gets to the point where my FPS games are console only I will stop gaming. I am serious, I will NOT convert to a console player. .. I hope...

What percent of the gaming market is PC these days? - IDK But I surmise less and less yearly. We PC'rs are the minority already - no longer the buying majority - so have less sway with the designers.
Will PC games really take a back burner to consoles? - With out a doubt, and we already have.
t is starting to look like we will be lucky to get lame ass ports if this trend keeps up. - I think that will be the norm also - not a PC version and a console, or a PC version ported to console but a console ported to PC - just read the review of CoD6 console to PC port.
I'm getting a WII this Christmas for the family - the downward spiral begins.

Ppl have been ringing the death knell for PC gaming for decades.
Look at it this way: Gaming consoles can play games, and DVD movies, and that's it. PC's can do that plus a whole lot more. Computers are ubiquitous. Internet, home theater, well we all know what computers can do. The only reason why consoles exist at all now is because they can easily hook up to a bigger screen in the living room, and some game designers agree to make a game for this console, not that console, and not the PC. Allow folks to hook up their computer to living room TV's and lose those exclusivity agreements, the consoles become multi-hundred-dollar hunks of electronics that essentially duplicate one of the functions of something every home already has.
I'm still running old tube TV's, so let me ask those of you who have a new flat-panel job: can you easily plug your computer into them now? If not, is it heading that way?
We might hit a flat period in PC gaming, then someone will write something awesome that can't be done as well on a console, make a bazillion dollars, and we'll be off to the races again.
To use a Battlestar Galactica quote, "This has all happened before, and it will happen again."

Duck, WII isn't really a console if you ask me. It's more of a family oriented entertainment device....
If you ask me, I'd say they put as little effort as possible into the PC version because it didn't matter. Heck, CoD3 was Console Only. They've already shown they will set the PC Version to the side.
