It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce that GR2 - The Punk Phase will be shutting down due to the new RIAA broadcasting fee's.....
I talked to Sarge privately already. I am very grateful for all the hard work he put into the station.
Unfortunately, Live365 has had no choice but to raise their rates to reflect the increase in fee's imposed on broadcasters last year. The fact they held out this long is rather amazing if you ask me.
In addition, GR1 will loose 60-80 out of 100 free listener slots. We are currently averaging 30K Total Listening Hours a month. I expect that to drop to 10K or less once I go on the new plan. Even with that, it will cost between $500-$1200 this next year to run the station. And I am only talking broadcast fee's. By the year 2010, those fee's will have increased 40%.
I would like to congralute the Recording Industry Association of America on winning this battle. You are getting your wish and one more Independent Internet Radio station is closing it's doors, leaving it wide open for you to try to control this downward spiral you are on. You have won this battle, but I am afraid we are all going to loose this war.
